Always be decluttering…

Declutter- to remove unnecessary items.

One of my favorite feel good shows is Queer Eye- a show about the Fab 5 each with a special talent that helps transform communities and individuals. In one of the episodes you meet a woman whose home is a beautiful chaos. There is so much clutter and things sporadically placed throughout her home. It is unwelcoming and uninviting, but that is her space. There are valuables and sentimental things, but they aren’t organized or have a place. It makes the space feel dirty. When we look at people’s homes, spaces, or environments- it almost invites us into their brain and how their brain is functioning. Trippy isn’t it to think about that?

Every year, I always make it a point to purge out my refrigerator, kitchen, and closet. It is a bit of an overwhelming task (especially my closet), but once I am finished it feels so damn good. I declutter food and condiments that are outdated or not healthy for me. Typically I have 5+ bags of clothes and shoes I either pass down to my sisters or donate after I declutter my closet. I usually have to reach out to my sister for help because she typically keeps me on track and says, “no- you do not need this.” vs. me questioning my judgement :). During that closet declutter, it’s funny at times too-going through clothes and asking myself, “When was the last time I wore this?” or “What the hell was I thinking purchasing this?” Seasons change… and so can you. Always be decluttering…

When we declutter we are not only cleaning and having a fresh start, we are also internally healing ourselves and having a reset, refocus and recharge moment. After each declutter project- a moment of exhale and euphoric feeling comes about after the cleanse. When you are in the declutter projects, you have to be intentional with your time and space. For some this can feel like a task, and for others this can feel like “put me in coach” and you are on a roll. Give yourself grace and patience. Also, lean on your support system, Pinterest, or bloggers on organizational therapy. Take a step back after you declutter and tune into to how your brain is functioning- is it more clear, is it more focused on other things, do you feel a sense of ease, are you sleeping better?

Your space and your home is your sanctuary. Invite and welcome good energy- protect that. Make it a space of comfort and tranquility for you. Don’t invite that toxic stank energy- it’s not welcome “Better check your energy before you walk in this space.” That goes for all things relationships, family, and experiences.

There is always a time to declutter.
