Always be moving the couch…
My sister FaceTimed me the other day asking me my thoughts on how she should rearrange her living room furniture. The couch was the most daunting thought. She was so fixiated on that thing. “It is so ugly. I am over it. It’s too big. It’s old.”
Interior Designing is a gift and an art. Decorating your space requires patience and creativity. You don’t necessarily have to be a creative, just start with one project at a time and find your insipiration. My uncle is an awesome interior designer (sure I am bias, but c'est la vie). He creates the most lavish and exquisite spaces out of nothing. His vision is one of a kind, and he understands his clients’ styles and creates a space that is for them.
Do you find yourself searching for an Airbnb and the most aesthetically pleasing images draw you in? I’m OBSESSED with touring model homes. It is the little things of adulting that is so satisfying. As a kid, my parents and I would tour model homes on the weekends. It was a fun way to get us out of the house and tap into some inspiration of these dream homes- and that is something I still marvel at.
Over the years of spaces I’ve decorated and lived in, my style has evolved. I’ve always have a vision for creating spaces that feel warm, personalized, and homey. Your space just makes you feel good. So when my friends or family ask me to help them decorate, I am all hands in! Call me Bob the Builder because we are fixin’ shit. haha Yes we can! :)
The most imporant thing is it is your space. What inspires you? What makes you feel like home? What brings you peace?
When my sister called me back after the third time moving her couch around, she finally came to a landing place. The couch just needed different pillows. She was over the shades she first created as the muse when she moved in, and now she was on to something new. Sometimes all it takes is to move the couch, reupholster a perfectly fine couch, or change the pillows.
My personal decorative go-tos:
Organize, Organize, Organize - Amazon has nice selections for home organization, especially for makeup, products, kitchen spices, and more. Check out The Home Edit for some organization inspo
Target, At Home, Amazon Home, Home Goods are some of my favorite places to shop for all the things home
Tiny spaces for big inspiration also need a razzle dazzle. Repurpose candle jars to use as decorative storage for safety pens, paper clips, bobby pins, jewlery, hair brush holder, makeup brush holder, lip product containers, cotton and q-tip holder, and so on
Have a welcoming entry way that inspires right away. Make it spicy. Make it cute. Make it pop. Let it shine.
Clear floating shelves are great to showcase your favorite art pieces, books, pictures, and more
Always have something sentimental in your space that has been given or passed down from a loved one
Highlight a peaceful/creative corner- an area for you to retreat for your evening coffee, reading a book, smoke a cigar, morning coffee, daily mediation, etc. Your wellness is important and so should this space
If you have a green thumb- bring on the plants! If not, faux plants make a space light up. Wayfair, The Sill, Target, Home Good have some good guality faux plants
Scents are special- keep those scented plug ins, room spray, or candles in every room
You can’t ever have too many pillows on the bed (ha, yes I am that person)
Let each room have its own theme while also creating a flowetry throughout your home
We will always have that “junk drawer”- it is a part of the culture. Just don’t turn that one junk drawer to scattered junk throughout your space
Your muse is your muse- minimal, modern, boho, chic, funky, vintage, artsy, contemporary, they all work for you. Architectural Digest, Studio McGee, and Instagram Influencers are my sources for inspiration
Jazz up your white or neutral spaces with a pop of color as an accent piece
